Amazon.com If Cripplin' Crutch sounds reminiscent of the title of a certain well-known song by the Band, it should come as no surprise that Flood in fact contributed a tune ("Move to Japan") to the Band's 1993 effort, Jericho. Neither is it surprising therefore that Flood and his music are very closely related to that Woodstock-by-way-of-the-Deep-South sound, a mixture of folk, blues, and good-natured New Orleans barrelhouse. In 2001 we call that type of thing Americana, but whatever one labels it, it's a funny, mildly bitter mix, raucous and rolling and slightly psychedelic, charming and more than a little odd. Flood is a one-man master of an art form that few remember, but which is no less effective or entertaining. --Henry Cabot Beck

I like many styles of music, as long as it's honest. This, however is what I call the best type of music. Real roots rock. Joe Flood plays ragged, junk-yard rock with a rootsy blues flavour that'll appeal to those who like Tommy Womack, Kevin Gordon, and Phil Lee. Great production from Eric Ambel.

A little country, a bit of folk, and he tosses in a taste of rock and roll just to keep everyone happy. Joe's ability to write music is equal to his ability to perform. A true musicain who has created a great piece. This album has something for everyone.

I buy way too many cds, so the fact that this cd is one of my top 10 favorite 2001 releases that I bought this year make it my sleeper pick of the year. Buy it, you won't regret it!
One fine CD September 27, 2001 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Reminiscent of Six String Drag and the Bottle Rockets. Joe's voice is strong and deep. I happened on this record at emusic and was pleasantly amazed at the depth and quality. Would love to catch one of this guy's live shows.
