Simple and Dependable November 3, 2008 Movie Making Maniac (Alabama)
I am constantly making slideshows for our family and friends, and when my DVD burner died, I was at a loss as to what to do next. I ordered this burner on a friend's recommendation. When it arrived, I was hesitant about installing it (I have ZERO skills in that area!) But I followed the diagram, took my computer cover off, and within a few short minutes, I had replaced the burner and was up and running again. In the past three weeks, I've made three slideshows and am working on a fourth one, and so far, it has been very dependable --- no glitches, whatsoever. I would definitely recommend this burner to anyone who needs an affordable, dependable burner for their computer.
Nice DVD writer at a bargain price November 2, 2008 S Sudarshan (Minnesota, USA)
My old Pioneer DVD writer was too slow for my needs although for the last 3 years it had been a great workhorse. So I was looking for something faster. The SONY DRU840A perfectly fit my requirements. It is fast, no doubt about that, it is also very silent and at the price I paid ($42.00) it can't get any better than that. Just a word of caution to buyers. If you already have a DVD writer installed on your PC and you are using XP Pro, after you install a second DVD writer for some reason the OS get confused and stops reading CD-Rs although writing is not a problem. But the issue is not due to the DRU840A. I believe the moment you install any 2 DVD burners on your XP Pro PC, you are most likely to notice this problem. I am unable to get rid of this, so as a workaround I transfer data from my CD-R to a flash drive and use it on my PC.

Another High Quality Product From Sony October 3, 2008 Chuck Friel (Longwood, Florida USA)
This is my second Sony DVD-RW drive purchase. The first was a DRU830A, the discontinued predecessor to the DRU840A. The DRU840A is slightly faster than the DRU830A so I will use it as my primary DVD/CD drive. I purchased the second Sony drive because both are so quiet you have to see the indicator LED to sense that they are working. A previous Plextor drive could be heard in the next room. I have found the Sony drives not only super quiet, but very reliable and accurate recording critical data or video. I would highly recommend these drives to a friend.
