I used to have terrible acne (whiteheads, red spots, scabbing, bumps and cystic pimples that stay for weeks). Birth control helped a little but topical treatments, including prescription, didn't work. I have been taking Acticlate for 3 months and see a tremendous improvement. There was a purge period for a few weeks when I started taking it, so my acne got worse as the medication was pushing the bad stuff out. Now my skin is so much clearer- I don't really get cystic zits, only occasional small pimples. I took 150 mg for 2 months and as my skin got better my dermatologist told me to take 100 mg instead (the pill is scored in 3 parts so I break off 1/3 to only take 100 mg). The only downside I've experienced is nausea if I don't eat before/after taking it (quickly remedied by eating right away) or if I drink alcoholic beverages (I've stopped taking it on days I plan to drink). Missing a day of medication or taking it at different times each day doesn't seem to impair its effectiveness. I have another few weeks of medication left so I'm not sure if my clear skin will last, but I would certainly take it again if necessary.
I used to have mild Acne most common on my chin and cheeks and this cleared my skin up completely. I used it paired with Epiduo Forte and Aczone and my skin has been completely clear ever since. The only noticeable side effect I experienced was discomfort after taking the pill, especially if I took it right before bed.
Started taking this to treat my acne and it worked very well for me. It got slightly worse before it got better, like almost all acne medicines, but cleared up quicker than taking just a hormonal birth control for my acne. I take it with a topical cream for my face too (epidou) and my face is clearer than ever! Some side effects though
I started to take this medicine almost one month ago, instead my acne get better turned worst. I do not recommend this medicine. My Dermatologist was wrong.
I took Acticlate for 3 months. My acne used to be mild, but still bothersome. After a month or so my face got worse. I started getting cystic acne and large patches. My doctor told me that it gets worse before it gets better. That is true, but you usually start to see results after 2-3 weeks. I had quit taking it because it became too painful.
