This was my absolute favorite video when I was little. Everytime we'd visit the video store, this is the movie that I would choose to rent. Now, as a college kid, I still love this video! It's a little lovey-dovey, but it's a great movie. I hope to be a teacher someday, and want to show it to my students, too! The ponies are really cute (my favorite one is the jumper pony; the one who can reach the apples from the tall tree for Megan). It has a happy ending, too! It's a darling video; very worthwhile!
One of the Best! June 4, 2004 geatornez82 (Germantown, MD United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is the second "My Little Pony" special. It's one of the best ever made. The Little Ponies are having a costume ball in honor of their human friend, Megan. Throughout preparation, we see Catrina, an evil cat-like creature, who uses Witchweed Potion to be powerful. The potion is made by the Bushwoolies. But they soon escape and Catrina wants the Little Ponies as her new slaves. PROS: The songs are really great, and Catrina isn't wishy-washy like some of the villians on the MLP 'n Friends TV series (ie the Witches from the Volcano of Gloom). This is also one of the best plot-lines for an MLP cartoon. CONS: I didn't like the way Megan was animated, and the ponies from the first special never returned (and in my opinion, Firefly should have returned. Also, whoever designed the initial box when this came to video obviously wasn't paying attention to the program. On the front cover, ponies and characters who aren't even in this special are pictured, and the back states that Baby Surprise is kidnapped by Catrina, but it's Baby Moondancer who gets kidnapped. All in all, this is one of the best MLP cartoons ever made.
The Cutest My Little Pony Episode! January 9, 2003 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
This is the second my little pony episode made, it is also one of the only two special mlp videos made. This episode features the ponies from year 3 (with the exception of Skydancer) and also has the lullabye nursurey where the baby ponies stay. In this story, the evil catlike Catrina, who's slaves (the booshwoolies) that make her witchweed potion (gives her all her powers) have run off, tries to capture the my little ponies to make into her new slaves. When her first attempt to capture the ponies (with a snowstorm) fails, she goes after the rainbow of light. At the night of the ponies' costume ball, Catrina has her partner Rep disguise himself as a pony and get the rainbow of light from the little ponies. They end up kidnapping Baby Moondancer as well. Who will save Baby Moondancer? Will the ponies be forced to work as Catrina's slaves forever? The fate of ponyland will soon be decided! Pros: This episode has the best animation (the ponies and seaponies look professionally drawn) Antagonists (bad guys) are not cheesey Songs are cute and happy Megan is a sweet girl, not a bossy brat like in my little pony and friends episodes Cons: End comes too suddenly and may leave some people wondering Ponies starring in "Escape From Midnight Castle" (also known as Firefly's Adventure) have mysteriously disappeared The picture on the case of the movie has nothing to do with the episode itself
